Michelle Smith

Michelle Lynn Smith, 54, a resident of Dayton, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at her home.

Mrs. Smith was born on June 21, 1971 in Singers Glen and was a daughter of Randolph Scott Brown (Donna) of Myrtle Beach and Scarlett "Cookie" Lynn Schroeder Lightner (Tommy) of Lacey Springs.

Having a genuine love for people, Michelle graduated with her associates degree from Blue Ridge College and worked in patient transport. Michelle will be remembered for her love of life’s simple joys and her deep devotion to family. She treasured time spent fishing at Lake Anna, relaxing at the beach, and getting lost in a good book. She had a special passion for collecting antiques and carefully displaying her beloved Christmas village figurines each holiday season.

She enjoyed attending bluegrass concerts and was a proud supporter of Herd Baseball, always cheering on the players and their families. Above all, she cherished every moment spent with those she loved.

Surviving is her husband of 25 years, Robert Allen “Bobby” Smith; children, Herald Gene “H.G” Smith III (Jessica), Amber Nicole Smith (Robert Buckles), Brandon Scott Smith (Tiffany), Stephanie Michelle Smith (Brandon Merica), Rachel Nicole Smith (Brandon Shiflet); siblings, Tony Brown, Jason Burdette (Jaclyn), Kristi Matthews (Al); grandchildren, Nathaniel Smith, Matthew Smith, Shelby Buckles, Eleanor Buckles, Gunnar Smith, Hunnar Smith, Jeremiah Smith, EZekiel Smith, Kaydence Williams, Ellis Miller, and Oaklynn “Gertie” Shiflet.

Michelle was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Scott and Molly "Jane" Brown.

Pastor Jerry Shiflet will conduct a funeral service on Monday, February 23, 2026 at 11 a.m. at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 22, 2026 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
