Gilbert "Gil" Souder

Gilbert “Gil” Harris Souder, 72, was born on March 5, 1953, and passed away on December 8, 2025.

He is survived by his son, Zane Souder, and Zane’s fiancée, Brianna Shears, of Linville, Virginia; his sister, Sally Souder, of Bradenton, Florida; and his former wife, Josie Showalter, of Massanetta Springs, Virginia.

Gil graduated from Harrisonburg High School, where he played on both the basketball and tennis teams. He later attended Virginia Tech

Gil liked fishing, hunting and camping throughout his life. He especially enjoyed sharing these experiences with his son, from the time Zane was a toddler.

In his early years, Gil worked in various sales-related businesses before owning and operating a poultry farm in Hinton, Virginia. After 22 years in farming, he retired and went on to drive a school bus for the City of Harrisonburg for 15 years.

A visitation for friends and family will be held at McMullen Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 17th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
