Audrey Jean Wood Parks, 78 Mt. Sidney
Audrey Jean Wood Parks, 78 died February 11, 2012 at her home.
Mrs. Parks was born on March 2, 1933 in Singers Glen and was the daughter of the late Cebyl Herman and Ruby Kathleen Whetzel Wood. She graduated from Mt. Clinton High School in 1950. She operated the grocery store, Food Town in Washington D.C. before traveling extensively with her husband and three children as a military wife and mother. She later worked as the credit manager of Joseph Ney’s in Harrisonburg. Mrs. Parks worked for Appalachian Equipment and she owned and operated The Old Shoppe in downtown Harrisonburg. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees fan. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling, bingo and trips to Charles Town.
On June 15, 1952, she married Charles Parks Sr. who survives.
Also surviving are a son Charles Richard Parks, Jr. and wife Esther, Harrisonburg; two daughters, Robin Baker and husband Marvin Jr., Harrisonburg; Renee Stickley and companion Earl Wright, Harrisonburg; two special cousins, Mobley Padilla and Donna Wolfe and a special aunt, Jean Whetzel; eight grandchildren, Christopher Ryan Parks and Kara Deavers; Eric Michael Parks, Sirena Grant and husband Cameron; Cassandra Baker and fiancé Dave Gordon; Heather Baker; Halley Stickley and fiancée Robert Fowler; Bud Stickley and Austin Stickley; seven great grandchildren, Addison Grant, Ruby Grant, Jayvahn Brown, Malika Stickley, Mya Lambert, Kayden Fowler and Kyran Fowler.
She was preceded in death by one aunt, Roxie Hedrick and two uncle’s Wayne Whetzel and Wyath Whetzel whom she thought of as brothers and sisters.
Pastor Wayne Wright will conduct a funeral service Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Singers Glen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, February 13, 2012 at the McMullen Funeral Home from 6p.m. until 8p.m.
